FORT WAYNE, Ind..- For the second consecutive season the Madonna University baseball team will travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to face top-seeded and 23rd-ranked Indiana Tech in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship Series. In addition to earning a spot in the championship series, the Crusaders have claimed the WHAC's second automatic bid to the NAIA Opening Round which takes place May 13-16 at campus sites to be announced.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Last season, the Blue and Gold traveled to  Warriors Baseball Field and lost the first game of the championship series before taking the final two games, 5-4 and 12-10 to secure the programs sixth WHAC Tournament championship.
  • The Crusaders have one the last four meetings between the two teams, sweeping the Warriors at Ilitch Ballpark this season, 6-5 and 5-3.
  • Madonna leads the all-time series 53-24 which includes a 20-12 record in Fort Wayne. Madonna has averaged six runs per game against Indiana Tech.
WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?
  • In two games this season Madonna outhit Indiana Tech 24-21 with a .316 average to the Warriors' .280
  • Madonna pitched to a 3.15 ERA over 20 innings with eight walks and eight strikeouts
  • Victor Mencotti earned a win as he allowed two runs over six innings and John Beuckeleare earned a win and a save in four innings as he allowed two runs on four hits
  • Jack Ferguson took a no decision as he allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits over eight innings
  • Jalen Thomas and Frankie Lucska led the offense as each hit .500 in the two games, both drove in two runs while Thomas had four RBI to Lucska's two
  • Madonna had six two-out RBI in the two games while the Warriors had none
  • Indiana Tech left 21 runners on base to Madonna's 19

  • The Crusaders and Warriors will meet in Fort Wayne for a best-of-3 championship series beginning Monday, May 6 at 6 p.m. Tuesday's game will begin at 3 p.m. with an if necessary game being played afterward.
