LIVONIA, Mich.- The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament Livonia pod, hosted by Madonna University, concluded on Friday afternoon at Ilitch Ballpark as the Crusaders beat the Golden Eagles by a score of 3-0. The win for the Blue and Gold not only sent the Crusaders to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference championship series, but it also marked the 1,000th program win for the Crusaders.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Crusaders struck first on a crucial error by the Golden Eagles third baseman that allowed Nick Sykes to reach in the top of the second inning. Noah Moore bunted Sykes to second before Gordon Ferguson slapped a single up the middle scoring Sykes for a 1-0 lead

  • Daniel Gore held the Golden Eagles at bay for 7.2 innings, allowing just three hits throughout his start

  • MU added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh as Alex Nicholson led the inning off with a single before back-to back two-out singles by Noah Renaud and Frankie Lucska scored Jalen Thomas and Stephen Parker for a 3-0 lead.

  • John Beuckeleare closed the door, being asked to record at least six outs for the seventh time this season

WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?

  • MU outhit Cornerstone 6-3 and made no errors in the contest

  • Lucska was the lone Crusader with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI

  • The clutch performance on the mound by Gore was his third longest start of the season

  • In four career appearances against Cornerstone, Beuckeleare has been lights out as he has allowed two unearned runs on one hit, three walks and struck out 10 in seven innings with a 1-0 record and a save, which he earned today.

  • Madonna is 15-0 when leading after eight innings this season
