KINGSPORT, Tenn.- The Madonna University Crusaders kept their NAIA World Series hopes alive with an impressive 5-4 victory over Campbellsville University on Tuesday night at Hunter Wright Stadium. GAME 1: Madonna 5, Campbellsville 4

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Tigers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring two runs in the top of the first on a double to deep left field

  • The Crusaders responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning on two hits and one Tiger error. Noah Renaud reached on a misplayed ball by the CU right fielder before Frankie Lucska singled through the right side and both runners advanced on a Nick Sykes groundout. Parker then stepped to the plate and singled to right-center field to even the score at 2-2.

  • MU took their first lead of the ballgame as another CU error put Alex Garbacik on base before Renaud singled up the middle to score Garbacik for a 3-2 Crusaders lead

  • Following a solo shot by the Tigers first baseman, the Blue and Gold would once again rally in the bottom of the third, as Parker led the inning off with a triple to center field. Gordon Ferguson singled to center field that scored Parker, stole second base, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Adrian Reed. Garbacik followed Reed and hit a deep fly ball to center that would score Ferguson for a 5-3 lead

  • Both sides remained scoreless for the next five innings but Campbellsville did not go down quietly as they rallied with two outs to bring the scoring within one run and have the tying run on third base. Although, Jack Ferguson closed the door and struck out his third batter of the inning to eliminate the threat and solidify the Crusaders victory
