LIVONIA, Mich. It took nearly a full quarter, but eventually the top-ranked Madonna University men's lacrosse team played like the best team in the NAIA en route to an 18-7 rout of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference associate member Taylor University at the Madonna Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The game was tied at 1 until the 3:29 mark in the first quarter which is when an Ian Rush goal sparked an 8-0 run that lasted until the 12:52 mark of the third quarter
  • Madonna got goals from Anthony Salamone, Harry Dyson, Vince Floro, Rush (2), Marco McMann (2) and Tyler Kilar during the run to push the lead to 8-1
  • The teams played an even third quarter, but the Blue and Gold outscored the Upland, Indiana program 7-3 in the final 15 minutes for the 18-7 margin
  • Tyler (4) and Grant (3) Gering accounted for all seven of the Trojans goals
BY THE NUMBERS
  • 55-32: The Crusaders outshot the Trojans 55-32 which included a 40-15 margin in shots on goal
  • 21-24: The Blue and Gold converted 21-of-24 clears while TU went 17-for-29
  • 23-6: The Blue and Gold, led by Zachary Beam's 22, won 23-of-29 face-offs, Beam also had a team-best 12 ground balls
  • 5: McMann paced the Crusaders with five points on four goals and an assist
  • 4: Harry Dyson collected four points on four goals while Connor Wright tallied a game-high four caused turnovers
  • 3: Floro finished with three points (1 g, 2 a) and added three caused turnovers while Lucas Kalscheur also tallied three points on two goals and one assist
