BEVERLY HILLS, Mich.– The Madonna University women's lacrosse team matched a program record, set two games ago, with 19 goals in a dominating 19-3 win over Rochester College at Detroit Country Day on Wednesday night. They did so behind record-setting performances by
Christy Battersby and
Madeleine Caswell who each tallied a program single-game best seven points in the contest.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Battersby scored the opening goal and added a pair of assists on Madison Kadwell and Haley Skeens' goals while Valarie Patterson fed Kadwell for the fourth MU goal in the first half. The shorthanded Warriors put up two in the period and it was a 4-2 game at the break.
- The Blue and Gold use a 6-0 run over the first 7:08 of the second half to push the lead to eight. Caswell and Alisha Birchmeier scored twice while Battersby and Chelsea Plant each added one. Rochester got another goal at the 20:25 mark, but MU added nine more goals the rest of the way to seal the win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- 38 (31): Madonna outshot Rochester 38-19 with 31 shots on goal to RC's eight
- 16-2: The Crusaders, led by Kadwell's five, won 16-of-18 draw controls in the contest
- 7: Battersby and Caswell each scored four goals and had three assists while Battersby added three draw controls to her seven points
- 6: Kadwell finished with six points with three goals and three assists
- 3: Dana Haney (1 g, 2 a), Patterson (3 a) and Skeens (2 g, 1 a) each finished with three points while two others had two points and three players tallied one
