LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Madonna University baseball team put together two victories on day one of the Warner University Tournament, the first over University of St. Francis and the second over the tournament host, Warner University.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Game One - MU 19, USF 5

  • The Crusaders scored in four of the six innings that they stepped to the plate, three of which were for five runs or more

  • Seven Crusaders recorded a multi-hit game while 10 different players recorded an RBI

  • Jalen Thomas and Frankie Lucska paced the offense, both finishing 3-for-5 with three RBI

WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?

  • MU outhit the Saints 21-7

  • The Crusaders did not commit any errors while USF committed three

  • Ray Richard threw all seven innings, allowing five runs, seven hits and three walks but earning the victory

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Game Two - MU 2, WU 1

  • The Crusaders recorded four hits as four different players found their way on base

  • Adrian Reed singled in the second that led to a fielding error which plated the first run for MU

  • Joey Pejuan scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead

  • Warner earned one run back in the bottom of the third but could not capitalize again

WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?

  • The Crusaders were outhit by Warner 5-to-4

  • Victor Mencotti threw 5.1 innings allowing just four hits and one run, striking out eight Warner batters

  • John Beuckeleare earned the save, throwing 1.2 innings of relief and hanging onto the 2-1 lead

  • Both teams committed two errors in the contest

  • The Blue and Gold return to action Friday, Mar. 8 against NAIA No. 23 Bellevue University at 12:15 p.m. before facing off with No. 6 St. Thomas University for a 7:00 p.m. nightcap.
