LIVONIA, Mich.– Three goals in the final five minutes tied the game for the Madonna University women's lacrosse team, but Lourdes University, who received votes in the NAIA Coaches' Top 10 Poll, netted the game-winner with 27 seconds on the clock to shock the Crusaders, 12-11, at The Madonna Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Gray Wolves scored a pair of early goals, but Valarie Patterson and Christy Battersby quickly tied the score.
  • After the Sylvania program when up 4-2 the Crusaders went on a 4-0 run to take the lead with goals from Battersby (2), Patterson, and Brittany Leist.
  • Two goals in the final 7:15 tied the score and Lourdes scored five of the first seven goals to begin the second half and build an 11-8 lead.
  • Battersby pulled the Blue and Gold within two and then Leist scored a pair of goals 10 seconds apart, the latter tied the game on a nifty spin move in front of the net.
  • Unfortunately a man-up goal in the final 30 seconds gave the visitors the win.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • 30-22: Madonna put 22 of their 30 shots on goal and held Lourdes to 26 shots, 20 on target
  • 3-12: The Crusaders converted just 3-of-12 free position shots while the Gray Wolves went 3-for-6
  • 4: :Leist and Battersby each scored four goals while Leist added six ground balls
  • 7: Battersby tallied seven of MU's 13 draw controls, one shy of the single-game record
