DEARBORN, Mich. The Madonna University women's basketball team played well in the second half, but a 15-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome in a 67-46 road loss to the University of Michigan - Dearborn at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

It was a back-and-forth start to the contest as the Crusaders took a 6-4 lead on a pair Cierra von Zittwitz free throws, but the home team used a 12-4 run to end the period with a 16-10 lead. A 7-0 run by the Wolverines pushed the deficit to 13 points before three straight points from Emily Huff made it 23-13. A 6-1 run for the home team put the Blue and Gold in a 15-point, 31-16, hole at the break.

A 25-18 third quarter pushed the Wolverines' lead to 22 with just a quarter to play. An 8-1 run, highlighted by a Claire LeRoux 3-pointer, cut the lead to 15, 57-42. Madonna outscored UMD 12-11 in the final quarter and LeRoux scored the final four points for MU in the loss.

TURNING POINT
  • A 6-1 Wolverines run that pushed the lead from 10 to 15 points to being the second half.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
  • Sydney Brown paced the offense with 11 points and four rebounds while von Zittwitz netted 10 and grabbed a team-best six boards. Huff finished with eight points while Sheldon Bochenek netted si points and grabbed five rebounds.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Madonna shot an impressive 40 percent (10-of-25) in the second half, but finished 6-for-32 (18.7%) in the first 20 minutes
  • The Blue and Gold had twice as many free throws (12-6) as the Wolverines, but the home team outscored the Crusaders 28-14 in the paint
