LIVONIA, Mich. – The Madonna University women's basketball team was not able to pull off an upset on the road against NAIA No. 25 Aquinas College on Wednesday night in Grand Rapids, although three Crusaders recorded double digit points in the loss.
The Crusaders only lead of the game came at the 7:05 mark of the first quarter as Hannah Reinhold and Cierra Von Zittwitz combined for seven points and a 7-6 lead in favor MU. A 39-16 run for Aquinas over the next 13 minutes put the Saints ahead 45-23 at halftime and set the tone for the remainder of the game. The Blue and Gold fought hard in the third quarter, outscoring Aquinas 23-18, but a 23-11 fourth quarter by AQ put the game out of reach for MU.

Sydney Brown, as she has been all season, paced the Crusaders offense with 13 points and four rebounds while Von Zittwitz and Reinhold also posted double digit points, combining for 22 points 9 rebounds.

Sheldon Bochenek added eight points of her own while Emily Huff led all MU players with seven rebounds

The Crusaders shot 41.8 percent (23-55) from the field, 30 percent (3-10) from three point range, and 66.7 percent (8-12) from the free throw line. The Saints shot 47.9 percent (35-73) from field goal range, 47.6 percent (10-21) from deep, and 40 percent (6-15) from the line.

The Saints controlled the paint with 48 rebounds compared to the Crusaders 30, as well as scoring 46 points in the paint to the Crusaders 24.
