SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Madonna University women's basketball team ended its season with a 90-66 loss to Lourdes University at the Ebeid Rec Center on Saturday afternoon.
The host Gray Wolves scored the first eight points before Sheldon Bochenek sank a pair of jumpers. A later 5-0 run pushed the deficit to a first-half high 14 points, 22-8. The Blue and Gold closed the half on a 7-2 run though, highlighted by a Naomi Davis 3-pointer, to cut the hole to nine, 24-15 after one. Another 7-0 run by the Crusaders to end a 17-13 second quarter saw the lead cut to three, 35-32 on a Hannah Reinhold jumper. Lourdes hit a jumper in the final minute to make it 37-32 at the half.
The teams traded runs in the third period with the Crusaders getting as close as six several times, but the home team netted five of the final seven points in the quarter to take a 61-52 lead. It was all Lourdes in the final quarter of play as the home team outscored MU 29-14 for the final margin, 90-66.
TURNING POINT
- A 9-2 Gray Wolves run that turned a 6-point game in the third quarter into a 13-point deficit one minute into the fourth.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Bochenek led the team with 20 points and grabbed four rebounds while Sydney Brown netted 16 points and grabbed seven boards. Cierra von Zittwitz finished with 10 points while Reinhold scored seven points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out eight assists.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Madonna shot a higher percentage than Lourdes 45.6 percent (26-of-57) to 43.7 percent (38-of-87), but the Gray Wolves won in the paint (45-24) and outrebounded the Crusaders 51-36
- Madonna converted 11-of-19 free throws while Lourdes went 5-for-9 from the charity stripe
