LIVONIA, Mich. The Madonna University women's basketball team won their second consecutive game  in a hard fought contest that saw five lead changes. Sydney Brown and Hannah Reinhold once again carried most of the offensive load, combining for 38 points as the Crusaders defeated Cornerstone University 57-62 at the MU Activities Center on Monday night.

The Blue and Gold found themselves trailing 7-0 through the first three minutes of the game before they responded with a 13-0 offensive run of their own. The Crusaders began the second quarter with a 10-0 run that was short lived as the Golden Eagles lessened the lead to three points by the end of the half. The third quarter saw back and forth action that ended with an Emily Huff layup with just five seconds remaining to put the Crusaders ahead 38-35.

A 10-3 run by the Crusaders, highlighted by a Sheldon Bochenek 3-pointer, gave the Crusaders an eight point lead with two minutes remaining. The Golden Eagles used an 8-2 run to make it a two-point game with 58 seconds left, but Sydney Brown converted three free throws and the defense forced a pair of turnovers down the stretch to secure the win.

TURNING POINT
  • Defensive stand in the final minute of the fourth quarter that did not allow the Golden Eagles a single point.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
  • Reinhold once again paced the Crusaders offense with 20 points as she shot 8-for-8 from the free throw line and added five rebounds. Brown followed closely behind as she posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Sheldon Bochenek posted double digit points with 11 of her own.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Madonna won in the paint, 36-20, and turned 22 CU turnovers into 23 points
  • The Blue and Gold were also efficient at the free throw line as they converted 14-of-19 (73.7%) while the Golden Eagles went 3-for-8 (37.5%) from the charity stripe
  • Bochenek made the Crusaders only three of the contest and it was her first of the season, she is now 1-for-2

  • The Crusaders wrap up their home slate with senior night when they return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. against the University of Northwestern Ohio.
