LIVONIA, Mich. - Joshua Reynolds became the 14th member of the 1,000-point club and was named to the All-Tournament team for the ninth-ranked Madonna University men's basketball team as they defeated Roosevelt University 83-65 inside the MU Activities Center on Saturday afternoon to close the final day of the 2019 Bernie Holowicki Classic presented by Hampton by Hilton Detroit/Northville.
Madonna took the early lead, but a 10-2 run by the Lakers turned a two-point Crusaders lead into a six-point deficit for the Blue and Gold, 17-11, at the 12:05 mark. The Crusaders answered back and the teams traded baskets and the lead until the 6:29 mark when a Mark Mettie dunk put MU up five and sparked a 10-0 run to push the lead to 13, 38-25 with 4:35 left in the half. The Blue and Gold scored 6-of-10 over the final 4:19 to take a 42-28 lead at the break.
The Crusaders maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half and used a 9-0 run in the last three minutes, highlighted by five points from Dwight Burton, to push the lead to a game-high 22 points, 82-60 with 2:11 to play. Roosevelt scored five of the final six points to account for the final margin, 83-65.
In addition to Reynolds, Henry Speight was also named the Bernie Holowicki Classic MVP.
In the first game of the day, Lawrence Technological University beat Brescia University (Ky.), 97-69.

- Speight led all scorers with 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while also dishing out a team-best four assists and recorded three steals
- Burton added 19 points while Reynolds finished with 18 points and eight rebounds
- Mark Mettie also netted double-digit points as he tallied 10 with four rebounds and two blocks
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- 40/26: The Blue and Gold dominated inside as they netted 40 points in the paint to Roosevelts 26
- 3: For the third time in four games the Crusaders shot better than 50 percent from the field as they finished the contest 28-for-55 (50.9%) while the Lakers converted 22-of-55 (40%)
- 38-33: Madonna also ruled on the glass as they collected 38 rebounds to Concordia's 33
