@MUCrusadersWBB struggle in loss to Blue Raiders

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Madonna Crusaders Women's Basketball team continued play in the First Bank Richmond Classic and faced off against the Blue Raiders from Lindsey Wilson in Kentucky. 

The Crusaders struggled throughout the first half but came back in the second to win the half. The Crusaders finished out their third game of the season with a loss by the score of 76-52. The Blue and Gold are now 1-2 on the early season. While the Blue Raiders begin their season at 3-0.


HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first period swung the way of the Blue Raiders as they won the quarter by a score of 20-4. Sydney Brown and Emily Pendreddid a lot of the work in the quarter. The Blue Raiders ended the quarter on a 9-0 run.
  • The Crusaders once again were down in the quarter by a score of 22-10. The Crusaders started off the 2nd quarter strong with baskets from Paige Boden, Hannah Reinhold, and Claire LaRoux.
  • The Blue and Gold started to catch fire in the second half as they won the quarter by one point. The Crusaders had a 9-2 run in the middle minutes as they attempted to make a comeback with scoring from Reinhold and Naomi Davis
  • The final quarter was perhaps the best quarter for the Crusaders as they won the quarter by three points. There was a lot of back and forth play in the final period but the Blue Raiders offense and defense was too much for the Crusaders to mount a full comeback.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • 5: Reinhold once again paced the Blue and Gold offense as she tallied 17 points and four rebounds over the course of the game
  • 38: The Blue and Gold as a team brought down 38 total rebounds including 12 offensive rebounds and 26 defensive rebounds. The Blue Raiders had 45 rebounds which included 16 offensive and 29 defensive
  • 24: The Crusaders scored 24 of their 52 points inside of the paint. While the Blue Raiders had 34 inside the paint
  • 32.1: The Blue and Gold shot the ball at a 32.1 % rate throughout the game.
