LIVONIA, Mich. – The Madonna University women's basketball team hun with No. 24 University of Rio Grande for 20 minutes on Saturday afternoon inside the MU Activities Center, however, the women play 40 minutes and ultimately fell to the Redstrom 69-51. The Crusaders fall to 0-4 on the season while Rio Grande improves to 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
The largest lead of the first quarter belonged to the Red Storm as they led by four just a minute into the contest. Neither team led by more than three the rest of the first 10 minutes and it was the Crusaders who held the first quarter lead as baskets by Lex Davis and Naomi Davis in the final 27 seconds put the home team in front 22-21.
-
It was a back-and-forth second period as once again the teams traded baskets and neither led by more than three. Rio Grande led for most of the quarter until a pair of Hannah Reinhold free throws tied the game at 30 with 2:09 left in the half. Reinhold answered a URG score with one of her own to again tie the game in the final minute of the half, but a Red Storm layup with 36 seconds left gave the visitors the halftime lead, 34-32.
-
A Sheldon Bochenek jumper tied the game to begin the third period, but the Red Storm took the lead with a pair of hoops and never looked back. The visitors ended the period on a 14-2 run and led 55-40.
-
Madonna did their best to claw back in the final quarter, but ultimately fell 69-51.
