GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After they fell behind early, the Madonna University volleyball team battled back, but their comeback big fell just short in a five-set thriller at Aquinas College in the Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center on Wednesday night.
The Crusaders dropped the first two games, 21-25 and 15-25, but they didn't fold and won games three and four by scores of 25-19 and 25-17. It was a back-and-forth fifth set, but a 6-3 run by the home team broke a tie at 9 and gave the Saints the match win.

For the first time in 2018 the Crusaders lost a match in which they outhit their opponent; Madonna hit .160 (57-29-175) while Aquinas hit .159 (52-26-164).

Madonna tallied more service aces than their opponent for the 10th time with eight to Aquinas' seven.

Alyssa Facione tallied at least 20 digs for the seventh time this season as she finished with 20

Jodie Kelly paced the MU offense with 15 kills while Erica LaBaere added 12 and Taylor Suurmeyer finished with 10

Nicole Chestnut tallied a season-high six kills and led the team with a .500 attack percentage

Lauren Korth dished out 46 assists and collected 17 digs while Amber Kelly added 12 digs

Head Coach Jerry Abraham (1,193) continues his pursuit of 1,200 career wins and needs seven more.

Korth sits in seventh on the all-time assist list with 3,816; 92 shy of Jennie Wind (1998-01) for sixth.
