@MUCrusadersVB dominates Warriors to snap skid

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Madonna University volleyball team bounced back in a big way with a dominant sweep of Rochester College at Garth Pleasant Arena on Friday night. The win snapped a two match losing streak and moved the Crusaders to 15-6 overall and 6-5 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play while the Warriors fall to 2-20 on the year and 1-9 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Blue and Gold fell behind early, 8-6, but that's when the Crusaders flexed their muscle. Back-to-back kills by Taylor Suurmeyer and Lauren Korth followed by a pair of Rochester attack errors put Madonna in front 10-8. Kills from Nicole Chestnut and Jodie Kelly as well as a pair of service aces pushed the lead to five. Another 4-0 run gave MU set point and a Nyla Greer kill sealed the win.

  • Madonna won six of the first seven points in set two, 10-of-14 and 12-of-17 to take a commanding early lead. Kills from Kelly, Suurmeyer and Korth highlighted a 5-0 run to put the Blue and Gold up 2-0.

  • The Blue and Gold took five of the first six in the final set, but the Warriors responded with an 8-2 run to take a 9-7 lead. The Crusaders took back control on a Suurmeyer kill that began a 16-4 run to help seal the sweep.
