@MUCrusadersVB wins third straight, sweep Cardinals again

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Dating back to 1990, the Madonna University Volleyball team is 40-1 against Concordia University-Ann Arbor and have dropped just six total sets. The Crusaders made it 41-1 with a sweep over the Cardinals, a streak of straight set wins that dates back to Sept. 18, 2007. Madonna improves to 22-9 on the year and 11-7 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play while Concordia drops to 3-20 overall and 2-16 in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In set one the Blue and Gold used a 7-0 run to turn a 7-6 lead into a 14-6 advantage en route to a 25-12 win. Taylor Suurmeyer tallied a pair of kills while Ryan Castle added an ace and Suurmeyer and Erica LaBaere teamed up for a block assist in the rally.

  • It was much of the same in set two as the Crusaders used an 8-0 run and 12-of-13 points to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 14-5 lead. MU won the set 25-16. A Jodie Kelly kill sparked the run that also saw Lauren Korth collect three aces and two more assists to Castle and Nyla Greer.

  • The Cardinals threatened to take game three as they led throughout the set, that is until a Kelly kill broke a tie at 18. Kills by Suurmeyer and LaBaere followed and an attack error by the home team put the Crusaders in control, 22-18. MU won three of the final four points to secure the win.
