LIVONIA, Mich. – Lauren Korth moved up to sixth on the all-time assist list as she led the Madonna University volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-17, 17-25, 25-16, 26-24) victory over Siena Heights University at the MU Activities Center on Wednesday night. The win boosts the Crusaders record to 16-6 overall and 8-5 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play while the Saints fall to 11-8 on the year and 6-6 in league action.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Set one was close early, that is until the Crusaders used a 12-2 run to turn a 10-9 lead into a 22-11 advantage and an eventual 25-17 win. Player of the Game Jodie Kelly tallied five kills in the run while Nyla Greer added a pair of kills and two block assists.

In game two the Crusaders led as late as 13-11, but the visitors from Adrian scored 14 of the final 18 points for the 25-17 win to even the match.

The third game was close early as well, before Kelly and Greer took over. With the score tied at 8, Kelly and Greer combing for four of the next five points and sparked the Blue and Gold to an 8-2 run and a 16-10 lead. Madonna closed the set strong as they won five of the final seven points with the final three tallies coming on Kelly kills.

Set four couldn't start any better for MU as, after an SHU point, Kelly evened the score and Yogi Hang delivered four straight service aces before a Greer termination put MU ahead 6-1. After the visitors erased the advantage and tie the set at 19, 20, 21, 22 and 24, the Crusaders finally ended the match on a Kelly kill.

Madonna outhit Siena Heights .215 (60-25-163) to .175 (43-19-137) and had more aces (7-5, assists (54-38) and digs (68-62).

Kelly led the offense with 19 kills and added 12 digs, four block assists and three assists.

Erica LaBaere tallied 13 kills while Greer added 12 and tallied seven block assists

Korth finished with 44 assists, five kills and 14 digs while Alyssa Facione led the defense with 15 digs

Amber Kelly also had double-digit digs with 11

The Crusaders improve to 46-3 all-time against the Saints with the last loss coming Aug. 29, 2001, a 3-2 defeat.

The Crusaders will step outside of league play as this weekend as they travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to compete in the Liz Lykowski Memorial Classic hosted by Indiana Tech. Madonna faces Shawnee State (Ohio) on Friday, Oct. 12 at 12 p.m. then squares off with Taylor (Ind.) at 4 p.m. They wrap up the event on Saturday, Oct. 13 against IU-Kokomo (12 p.m.) and Goshen (Ind.)(4 p.m.).
