COLD SECOND HALF DOOMS MU WOMEN AT CU

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - - Christie Carrico (Waterford, Mich.) led four Crusaders in double figures with 17 points, but it was not enough as Concordia out scored Madonna by 14 in the second half to take a 79-68 win on Saturday inside Cardinal Field House on the CUAA campus. The loss drops Madonna to 12-15 overall and 7-6 in the WHAC while CUAA improves to 12-16 and 5-7 in loop play.

The Cardinals took a 4-0 lead early in the game but the Crusaders rebounded to lead 7-4 with 16:04 left in the half on a Sheryl Jager (Wyandotte, Mich.) lay up. Concordia battled back to tie the game at 13-13 and took the lead back, pushing it to as many as six with 6:11 left on a pair of Jennifer O'Neil free throws to make it 25-19. MU then went on a 6-0 run to tie the contest at 25-all with 4:45 left.

Madonna then took the lead back, holding as much as a seven-point cushion after a Stephanie Day (Livonia, Mich.) lay-up from a Cali Crawford (Rochester, Mich.) pass to make it 32-25 MU with 55 ticks left on the clock. Concordia took advantage of a pair of MU fouls to cut the lead down to three, converting four free throws to trial 32-29 heading into the locker room.

Coming out of the half Concordia went on a 4-0 run to open the half and take the lead back for good on an April Kosinski field goal with 18:23 left in the game. The Cards extended their lead to as may as 13 on a pair of occasions, the last coming at 70-57 with 1:32 left.

Carrico led MU with 17 points and 11 boards while Caryn Inman (Oxford, Mich.) had 16, Tabatha Wydrick (Riverview, Mich) had 13 had and Crawford chipped in with 10.

The Crusaders wrap up the regular season on Wednesday night as the first half of a women's and men's basketball double header. The women get things started at 5:30pm against Davenport. The men are slated to follow at 7:30pm also against the Panthers. Wednesday will also be senior night as the MU program will pause to honor its senior class.
