In 2024, Matta and the Crusaders were once again back in the WHAC Tournament but were defeated in the quarterfinals by the University of Michigan-Dearborn. The Crusaders finished 2024 with a 8-7 overall record and 4-4 mark in WHAC Play. Out of the eight wins this season, seven of them came against teams that were receiving votes or ranked in the NAIA Top 25 Poll. In 2024, the Crusader led in the NAIA in caused turnovers (254) and CTs per game (16.9). Senior goalie, Jeff Varner also broke the record for the most saves in a single career with 835. Braden McCullough and DeMario Williams both were named First Team All-WHAC, while Jeff Varner, Zachary Lane, and Nick Bryden were named to the Second Team. 

In 2023, Matta lead the Crusaders back to the WHAC Tournament, where they were defeated by Aquinas College in the quarterfinals. Madonna finished 2023 with an 8-8 overall record and 4-4 mark in WHAC play, including a victory over No. 9 LTU.  Jeff Varner was named WHAC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-WHAC after recording an NAIA and WHAC single season record 267 saves. Kent Westrick was named First Team All-WHAC after causing 51 turnovers during the season, while Shane Alexander was named WHAC Newcomer of the Year after scoring 30 goals and racking up 19 assists.  

In his first season leading the Crusaders, Matta led the team to a 5-7 overall record and 5-4 mark in the WHAC. Madonna lost in the WHAC Quarterfinals to Lawrence Tech. Kent Westrick and Cole Gingell were named WHAC All-Academic under Matta. 

Personal Information:

Matta resides in Sylvania, Ohio with his wife Alexa, who is the Head Women's Lacrosse Coach at Siena Heights University (Mich.). The couple have a daughter, Cleo.
