Madonna Defeats Indiana Southeast 6-0 in Game One of the NAIA Opening Round

FAYETTE, Mo.-- Madonna opened scoring in the first inning and never let Indiana Southeast back into the game Monday, beating the Grenadiers 6-0 at Reardon Family Field in Fayette, Missouri in game one of the NAIA Opening Round. Regan Finkbeiner supplied the decisive early swing with a solo home run, and the Crusaders backed it with steady pitching and timely run production later in the afternoon.

Finkbeiner finished with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, helping set the tone in a game Madonna controlled from the circle and in the field. The Crusaders added breathing room in the fourth, when Ella Thomas lined an RBI double to left that scored Lucy Bennin for a 2-0 lead. Faith Peschke followed with an RBI single to center, bringing home Thomas and stretching the advantage to three.

Madonna broke it open in the sixth. Finkbeiner dropped down a bunt single that plated another run, then Ashley Rosiewicz followed with a two-run single to center for the final 6-0 margin. Rosiewicz added two hits and two RBIs, while Madonna finished with eight hits, four walks and six RBIs. The Crusaders also made the most of their opportunities on the bases, with Finkbeiner and Rosiewicz each recording a stolen base.

In the circle, Camille Oyer delivered the kind of start Madonna needed. Oyer worked five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, walked none and struck out five to earn the win. She threw 65 pitches before Anna Battagin handled the final two innings to complete the three-hit shutout. Madonna's staff allowed just one walk and struck out six. Madonna did not commit an error and held Indiana Southeast scoreless in every inning, sealing a clean, complete postseason-style win.
