Crusaders Power Past Nelson with Offensive Surge

PHOENIX, AZ -- Madonna continued its strong offensive stretch on Saturday afternoon, defeating Nelson University (AZ) 13-6 at Cortez High School.

Nelson struck first in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run, but the Crusaders responded quickly and took control of the game with a big third inning. Luke Spicer got the rally started with a solo home run before Madonna loaded the bases. Carson Noon drew an RBI walk to tie the game, and Chase Gabel delivered the key hit of the inning with a two-RBI single that gave the Crusaders a 5-2 lead.

Madonna added to its advantage in the fourth when Aamir Mitchell singled up the middle to bring home Ty Stepek and extend the lead to four runs. The Crusaders continued their offensive momentum in the fifth inning when Gabel struck again, blasting a three-run home run to left field to push the lead to 9-2.

Mitchell added another highlight in the sixth inning with a solo home run to left-center, helping Madonna reach double digits on the scoreboard.

Nelson made a late push in the seventh inning with a four-run frame, including a three-run home run, to cut the Crusaders' lead to 10-6. Madonna quickly shut down the rally and regained control of the game.

The Crusaders added insurance runs in the ninth inning as Noon launched a two-run home run to center field and Gabel followed shortly after with his second home run of the game, sealing the 13-6 victory.

Madonna's offense produced 12 hits in the win, led by Gabel who had a huge day at the plate with two home runs and six RBIs. Mitchell added two hits, including a home run, while Noon and Spicer also contributed home runs as the Crusaders showcased their power throughout the lineup.

On the mound, Ethan Gajewski earned the win with a strong start, pitching six innings while allowing two runs and striking out four. The Madonna bullpen combined to close out the final three innings and secure the victory.
