Livonia, Mich. – Madonna Women's Lacrosse faced a tough test Wednesday afternoon, falling to No. 7 Indiana Tech 19–3.
Indiana Tech came out strong from the opening draw, scoring seven goals in the first quarter to take early control of the game. The Warriors continued to build momentum in the second quarter, extending their lead to 12–1 heading into halftime.
Madonna broke through in the second quarter when
LeeAnn Johnson found the back of the net to get the Crusaders on the board. The offense showed more life in the second half, as
Nya Caldwell scored on a free-position opportunity in the third quarter.
Bana Kadi added Madonna's final goal early in the fourth quarter on a man-down opportunity, finishing a play assisted by
Erika Hernandez.
Despite the scoreline, the Crusaders showed resilience against one of the top teams in the country. Madonna generated 12 shots in the contest and created opportunities on free-position chances while continuing to battle defensively throughout the game.
Defensively, goalkeeper
Olivia Vitantonio recorded nine saves while facing heavy pressure from the Indiana Tech attack, which totaled 36 shots.
Indiana Tech was led by Michelle Farrell and Jessica Leigh, who each recorded four goals, as the Warriors maintained control throughout the contest.
Madonna will look to regroup as it continues conference play following the matchup against a nationally ranked opponent.
