GLENDALE, AZ – Madonna baseball used a massive fourth-inning rally to power past Arizona Christian, earning a 13–4 victory Tuesday evening at ACU Baseball Field.
Arizona Christian jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the first inning and adding another run in the second to take a 3–0 advantage.
Madonna chipped away in the third inning when
Aamir Mitchell reached base and eventually scored on an RBI groundout from
Donovan Thompson to cut the deficit to 3–1.
The Crusaders then broke the game open in the fourth inning with an explosive nine-run frame.
Luke Spicer and
Carson Noon started the rally by reaching base before
Gus Simon drove in a run with a double.
Brett Reed followed with a two-RBI double to give Madonna its first lead of the night.
The inning continued as
Kooper Etheridge reached on a bunt single before Thompson delivered a two-RBI single to center field.
Chase Gabel added a two-run double, and additional RBI doubles from Noon and Simon capped the rally as Madonna surged ahead 10–3.
Madonna continued to apply pressure offensively throughout the game, finishing with 16 hits. Noon led the Crusaders with four hits, while Simon recorded two doubles and two RBIs. Thompson drove in three runs, and Etheridge added two hits and an RBI.
On the mound,
Alex Hardacre earned the win after throwing four innings and allowing three runs while striking out four.
Jackson Manoulian provided two scoreless innings in relief, and
David Zilch closed out the game with a strong three-inning performance.
The Crusaders added three insurance runs in the ninth inning to seal the victory and complete a strong offensive performance on the road.
