Crusaders Crush Mustangs in Opener at St. Ambrose Dome

Madonna softball kicked off the 2026 Amrbose Dome Tournament with a dominant 9-1 victory over Mount Mercy at the St. Ambrose Dome in Davenport, Iowa. The Crusaders used an explosive 13-hit attack and steady relief pitching to secure the season-opening win in a game that was called after six innings.

Mount Mercy jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Abbey Smith drove in Ashley Smith with an RBI single. However, the Crusaders responded immediately in the bottom half of the frame as Faith Cramton grounded out to bring home Ashley Rosiewicz, evening the score at 1-1.

Madonna took control in the second inning. Faith Peschke tripled to drive in Olivia Salinas, followed by an RBI single from Ashley Rosiewicz that pushed the lead to 3-1. The offensive momentum continued in the third when Ella Thomas singled to center field to score Brynn Anteau. Shortly after, Salinas broke the game open with a two-run home run that scored Lucy Bennin and extended the Madonna lead to 6-1.

On the mound, Sara Austin started for the Crusaders, allowing one run over two innings of work. Camille Oyer provided excellent relief, shutting down Mount Mercy over the final four innings. Oyer surrendered only two hits and struck out two to keep the Crusaders comfortably in front.

The Crusaders sealed the victory in the bottom of the sixth inning. Regan Finkbeiner doubled to left field to score Rosiewicz. Cramton then provided the final blow, a two-RBI single that brought home  Anteau and Finkbeiner to reach the 9-1 final margin.

Several Crusaders had standout days at the plate. Anteau finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Thomas and Salinas also recorded multi-hit games. Salinas led the team with three runs batted in, matched by Cramton who also drove in three.
