Madonna Struggles to Find Rhythm in Road Loss at Taylor

UPLAND, Ind. – Madonna Baseball faced a tough road test on Thursday, falling 12-1 to an undefeated Taylor University squad at Winterholter Field. The Trojans used a high-powered offense and dominant pitching to hand the Crusaders the loss in a nine-inning contest.

Taylor jumped out to a fast start, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning and adding six more over the next two frames to take an early 10-0 lead. The Trojans' bats remained hot throughout the afternoon, racking up 15 hits while capitalizing on three Madonna defensive errors.

The Crusaders broke through in the top of the seventh inning. Ty Rowe helped spark the offense by drawing a walk, and Madonna eventually manufactured a run to avoid the shutout. However, the Taylor pitching staff proved difficult to solve, limiting Madonna to just three hits over the course of the game.

On the mound, Austin Fisher took the loss for the Crusaders, while Jackson Manoulian provided a bright spot out of the bullpen. Manoulian threw a scoreless eighth inning, allowing two hits but navigating through the frame without surrendering a run.

Offensively, Ty Stepek, Chase Gabel and Brett Reed recorded the hits for Madonna. Despite the quiet afternoon at the plate, the Crusaders showed patience, drawing four walks as a team.

Madonna now sits at 5-4 on the season. The team will look to regroup and find their rhythm as they continue their early-season road schedule.
