Madonna capped off its Friday slate in commanding fashion, shutting out Indiana University Southeast, 7-0, in Rosemont, IL at the NAIA Leadoff.
The Crusaders struck early and never looked back. In the bottom of the first,
Ashley Rosiewicz worked a leadoff walk and immediately applied pressure on the bases with a stolen base. After
Regan Finkbeiner was hit by a pitch,
Faith Cramton delivered once again, ripping a two-RBI single to give Madonna a 2-0 lead.
Jessica Dunkel followed with an RBI double to left, extending the advantage to 3-0 before Indiana Southeast could record the third out.
From there, the pitching staff took over.
Sara Austin was dominant in the circle, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five. She worked around traffic in the second and third innings and kept Indiana Southeast off balance all afternoon.
Courtney Ludescher added two shutout innings with three strikeouts, and
Avrey Wolverton closed the door in the seventh to secure the combined one-hit shutout.
Madonna created separation in the fifth inning with a four-run burst. Rosiewicz again ignited the rally with a walk, and Finkbeiner followed with a single.
Brynn Anteau drove in a run with a double down the left field line, and Cramton delivered the big swing of the inning with a two-RBI double to right center. Later in the frame, the Crusaders capitalized on a defensive miscue to plate another run and push the lead to 7-0.
Cramton led the offense with two hits and four RBIs, while Anteau and Dunkel each added doubles. Rosiewicz scored twice and swiped two bases as Madonna's aggressive baserunning continued to be a key factor.
The Crusaders combined timely hitting, disciplined at-bats, and dominant pitching in a complete 7-0 performance, closing out the day with back-to-back wins in Rosemont. Madonna will look to remain undefeated and close out their weekend at the NAIA Leadoff when they first face #20 Indiana Wesleyan University at 8:00 AM CST/9:00 AM EST. To close out the weekend they will then face Indiana University at South Bend at 10:00 AM CST/11:00 AM EST.Â
