Moore Scores 20, but Crusaders Fall 83-60 to Aquinas at Home

LIVONIA, Mich. — Madonna University could not overcome a hot-shooting Aquinas (Mich.) squad on Saturday afternoon, falling 83-60 in a nonconference matchup at the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Aquinas set the tone early with a 24-13 advantage after the first quarter and methodically maintained control the rest of the way, outscoring the Crusaders in every quarter. Madonna trailed 40-28 at halftime and 60-46 after three quarters, but the Crusaders were unable to mount a sustained comeback as Aquinas continued to convert efficiently on the offensive end.

Terre'ya Moore led Madonna with an efficient offensive performance, finishing with a team-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting to go with five rebounds and three steals. Moore briefly pulled the Crusaders level at 7-7 in the first quarter with a 3-pointer at the 7:11 mark, but Aquinas responded with a decisive run that put Madonna in chase mode the rest of the contest. Adoreya Williams joined Moore in double figures, adding 12 points for the Crusaders.

Perimeter shooting proved to be a key difference. While Madonna generated looks from beyond the arc, the Crusaders went just 3-of-21 (14.3%) from 3-point range. Pierce Cephas provided a late first-half boost with a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the second quarter to trim the deficit to 12, but the Crusaders could not translate that momentum into a major run after the break.

On the interior, Madonna faced a challenge containing Aquinas' balanced attack. The Saints shot 57.1% from the field (32-of-56) and 38.9% from long range (7-of-18), using a mix of drives, kick-outs, and midrange jumpers to keep the Crusaders' defense under pressure. Aquinas also held a 34-26 edge on the glass, limiting Madonna to one shot on many possessions and converting offensive efficiency into points in each quarter.

Despite the final margin, the Crusaders showed activity on the defensive end by forcing 16 Aquinas turnovers and collecting nine steals, including three from Moore. Madonna also recorded four blocks, signaling stretches of strong individual efforts on that end of the floor. However, the Crusaders' 15 turnovers and struggles from 3-point range made it difficult to close the gap once Aquinas built its early lead.

UP NEXT:
Madonna will look to build on Moore's scoring output and the team's defensive activity as it turns its attention back to conference play. The Crusaders aim to convert those positives into more consistent offensive execution and improved perimeter shooting in upcoming games. The Crusaders will be back in action on Wednesday, January 28th as they head to Grand Rapids, Mich. to take on Cornerstone University at Mol Arena. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
