Crusaders Continue to Stay Hot in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 10 Madonna Crusaders Softball team went into day five of their spring break trip in a doubleheader with two teams they had played just three days prior in a doubleheader with now No. 25 Bellevue University (Neb.) and University of St. Francis (Ill.). The Crusaders would complete the sweep of both teams going 2-0 on the day, defeating Bellevue 8-2 and St. Francis with a final of 10-2.

GAME 1: Crusaders Pick up Second Straight Top 25 Win

In a rematch from Monday, the Bruins looked to avenge their loss against the Crusaders but were unable to figure out Camille Oyer on the mound or keep up with the Crusaders offense.

Oyer would have a steller game in the circle for the Crusaders going all seven innings giving up only five hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

The Crusaders dominated through the first three innings taking an early 6-0 lead off of RBI singles from Brynn Anteau and Ashley Rosiewicz in the first inning and a bases clearing double from Mackenzie Ming in the third inning. The Bruins would get their only runs in the fourth inning off a two run homer but the Crusaders would come right back in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Jessica Dunkel and and RBI triple from Ella Thomas to give the Crusaders an 8-2 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Regan Finkbeiner led the way going 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.
  • Rosiewicz went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.
  • Ming finished 1-for-2 with 3 RBI's and a walk.

GAME 2: Crusaders Continue to Stay Hot in Arizona

Game two would feature Jane Anderson who has been off to a strong start in her senior campaign. Anderson would go all seven innings and despite giving up seven hits only allowed two runs and picked up six strikeouts.

The Crusaders offense would do most of their damage in the final three innings but started the scoring off in the top of the third with an error from St. Francis, allowing Alissa Gauthier to score followed by an Anteau single that would score Finkbeiner. The Crusaders would then go on to put up 8 runs in the final three innings including three in the 5th and four in the 7th including a two RBI double from Rosiewicz in the 5th and a two RBI triple from Ella Thomas in the 7th giving the Crusaders the 10-2 win.
