Crusaders Pick Up the Sweep in their home opener

LIVONIA, Mich. - The No. 10 Madonna Crusaders Softball team (16-5, 0-0) hosted their home opener this Saturday against the Harriers of Miami Hamilton. The Crusaders would pick up a pair of mercy wins, taking game one 11-1 in five innings and taking game two 13-1 in five innings.

GAME 1:

In game one the Harriers would start off the scoring in the top of the first after a wild pitch would bring home their only run of the game. The Crusaders would answer in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Ashley Rosiewicz that would tie the game up at 1-1.

From there it was all Crusaders who would get the bats going, especially in the third inning where they would pick up six runs off two hits with a double from Rosiewicz and an RBI single from Faith Peschke that would give the Crusaders a 7-1 lead after three.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Crusaders would score three more runs off an RBI single from Rylee Fitzpatrick and another RBI single from Mackenzie Ming to give the Crusaders the run rule mercy.

Camille Oyer would get the start on the mound going four innings giving up just two hits, with five strikeouts on 51 pitches. Courtney Ludescher would come in relief for the top of the 5th allowing no hits with one strikeout to close out the game.

  • Rosiewicz went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a double.
  • Peschke went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

GAME 2:

Game two was much of the same story with the Harriers scoring first in the top of the first on a walk but again would be the final run for the remainder of the game.

The Crusaders offense would not respond in the bottom of the first but would find their rhythm again in the second, third, and fourth innings putting up three runs, five runs, and five runs in each inning.
Ella Thomas would start the scoring in the second with an RBI single followed by a Peschke triple that would bring home Thomas. Alissa Gauthier would then follow that up with a single up the middle that would bring home Peschke giving the Crusaders a 3-1 lead.

In the third inning, the Crusaders would bat through the lineup starting with a Rosiewicz triple that would hit halfway up the wall in right center. Fitzpatrick would follow up with a double to bring home Rosiewicz. Ming would follow suit to Fitzpatrick with a double of her own to bring home the run. Then Emily Theisen would hit a deep fly ball into right field that would hit off the top of the fence and go over the wall for a two run home run, her first of the season and fifth of her career. But the Crusaders were not quite done yet, after another triple, this time from Thomas, Peschke would double down the right field line, scoring Thomas.

In the fourth inning, after a walk from Emma Mossing and a single from Ming, Theisen would secure another RBI with a single down the left field line to bring home Mossing. Thomas would follow with an RBI single of her own and after a couple wild pitches the Crusaders would finish with another five run inning to secure a second mercy victory.
