The Donna Boys open their 2025 Campaign

MILLIGAN, Tenn. -- The Madonna University baseball team began their 2025 campaign as they traveled south to Milligan and Kingsbury Tennessee to play four total games through Friday and Saturday. On Friday in Kingsbury, the Crusaders faced off against Rio Grande (Ohio) where they would pick up their first win of the year with a final score of 9-3. In game 2, the Crusaders would face off against No. 5 Cumberlands where they would fall 3-12. On Saturday, the Crusaders traveled to Milligan, Tennessee to take on Milligan in game one where they would win 10-7. In game two, the Crusaders would face off against Rio Grande (Ohio) for the second time and sweep the day winning 7-4. 

Weekend Recap:

It would be the new faces to the roster that would be the difference for the Crusaders this weekend as they finished with a 3-1 record with their only loss coming to a top five team. Newcomer and transfer from Macomb Community College, Ty Stepek, would lead the way with an outstanding .615 average going 8-13 with two doubles, a triple, a homerun and four RBI's. He also tallied a 1.154 slugging percentage with a .688 on base percentage and a 1.842 OPS. Jason Serafinchon also had a great opening weekend finishing with a .571 average, .600 on base percentage, and a 1.314 OPS. Kooper Etheridge and Johnny Stepek also finished with .500 averages over the weekend to round out the 43 total team hits the Crusaders had in the four games played totaling 29 runs with a team batting average of .458. On the mound Carson Collins shined in his first start of the year going 4.0 innings with 4 strikeouts and 0 earned runs. Brendan VanTubergen was a strong arm out of the bullpen throwing 2.0 innings with 0 earned runs and 2 saves. 


UP NEXT:

The Crusaders will be back in action on Friday and Saturday as they travel to Georgetown, Kentucky for a four game series against Georgetown College. First pitch on Friday and Saturday is set for 1 and 4.
