Women's Basketball Falls to Cornerstone

In a competitive WHAC Conference basketball game, the Madonna University Crusaders faced a tough challenge against Cornerstone (MI) Golden Eagles on December 3, 2025, at the ACCU Arena in Livonia, Michigan. Despite a strong first half, the Crusaders were unable to maintain their lead, ultimately falling to Cornerstone with a final score of 68-65.

The game started favorably for Madonna, with Breasia Gamble, Faith Jungwirth, and Terre'ya Moore exhibiting skillful plays, contributing significantly to the scoreboard. Madonna effectively utilized three-point shooting and maintains a substantial lead in the first quarter, ending with a score of 24-17 in their favor. The momentum continued with more points from Gamble and Jungwirth in the second quarter while strong defense by Moore and Jungwirth kept the Crusaders in control, leading 36-25 at halftime.

However, the third quarter marked a turning point as Cornerstone fought back vigorously. Despite efforts by Madonna, Cornerstone's Gracie Gortmaker and Julie Ashbaugh's plays reduced the deficit significantly, making the score at the end of the quarter a close 51-49, still in favor of Madonna.

The final quarter saw both teams fiercely competing for the lead. Madonna's defensive effort, highlighted by Jungwirth's crucial block, was noteworthy. Yet, it was Cornerstone that eventually took the game with a final lead change and key free throws by Abi Bandstra, concluding with the final score of 68-65.

Despite the loss, Madonna's performance showcased strong plays from Breasia Gamble, who led the team with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and significant defensive blocks. The next game for the Crusaders is scheduled against Aquinas College at Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on December 6, 2025. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM on Saturday.
