Madonna Tames Cougars in Close Matchup

In a high-stakes conference soccer game, the Crusaders overcame an early deficit to claim a 2-1 victory against the Cleary University Cougars. The match, held on the MU Soccer and Lacrosse Field, witnessed a dramatic second-half comeback by Madonna, earning them their 11th win of the season.

The match opened under challenging circumstances for the Crusaders, as the Cougars took an early lead, concluding the first half with a score of 1-0 in favor of Cleary. The only goal of the first half was scored by Leonardo Vitali of Cleary University.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Madonna University team, spearheaded by impressive plays from Ryushin Hirami and Jordy Lopez. Hirami, earning a penalty kick, successfully converted it into a goal, bringing the game to an equal standing. Continuing the momentum, Jordy Lopez managed to find the back of the net, securing the Crusaders the lead and, ultimately, the game. Madonna goalie, Afonso Henrique, played a pivotal role in this resurgence, making crucial saves that kept his team in contention until the final whistle. Additionally, Cleary's goalie, Austin Freemire, gave Cleary the best chance possible to make a comeback by making 13 saves in total.

The celebration was doubly significant as this win adjusts the Crusaders' overall season record to 11-1-1 and their conference record to 4-1-0. Looking ahead, the Madonna University's men's soccer team is scheduled to face the University of Michigan-Dearborn next on October 11, 2025, at the same venue where they claimed their recent victory.
