Crusaders Fall to Gray Wolves in Close Conference Matchup

LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna University Crusaders (12-9, 5-8) were back on home court tonight in a conference match up with the Lourdes University Gray Wolves (14-6, 9-4).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In their last meeting back in November, the Gray Wolves would take the win, so the Crusaders were eager to even the score at home. Both teams would be coming into the game on a high, hoping to use the momentum generated from their respective wins this past Saturday. The Crusaders hoped to add another game to the win column in conference play, especially coming close to the end of the regular season with their sights set on the conference tournament.

The Gray Wolves would get off to a hot start, but the Crusaders matched the tempo, Marcela Rodriguez first to put points on the board for the home side. The visiting Gray Wolves would respond quickly, however, continuing to rack up points from the line, ending the quarter 4-of-4 on free throws. The Crusaders would go on to push late into the first and would use this momentum in the second, working to lessen the gap and shut down Lourdes' Macie Stringfellow, who would finish the first half with 10 points. The Gray Wolves would end the half in the lead, the score 33-26.

The two conference foes would continue to trade points in the third, no team willing to give the other an inch of breathing room, desperate for another conference victory. The Gray Wolves would go on to sustain their lead in the 3rd, but the Crusaders wouldn't quit, Terre'ya Moore keeping them in the game as she ended the quarter with 15 points, two assists, and two steals. Madonna would head into the final quarter down, but the point margin would be narrowed with the Gray Wolves up 44-40.

It was a fight to the end, both teams pushing offensively. After sustaining the lead for the entirety of the game, a consistent offensive effort would eventually capture the win for the Gray Wolves, the final score 65-55 in the visitor's favor.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Moore led the team with 18 points, nine rebounds, and two steals
  • Keiarra Jennings finished with nine points and seven assists
