Crusaders Conquer Yellow Jackets with 28-Point Win

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Madonna University Crusaders Men's Basketball Team welcomed the Defiance Yellow Jackets to Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena this past Saturday. The Crusaders were coming off a three-game winning streak by taking down Indiana Tech, Cleary, and Concordia. The Crusaders ultimately extended the win streak to four games after defeating the Yellow Jackets 91-to-63.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders took care of the Yellow Jackets with ease as Madonna continues to find rhythm late in the season after a rocky start to begin the season. The Crusaders found great success by way of the usual contributors.

Brendan Young had a stellar game by dropping 30 points. In addition, Young shot 13-for-18 from the field and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. Young found his groove as the game went on as he continued to dominate in the paint and from the three-point line.

The scoring depth kept trickling down the lineup as Matthew MacLellan and Isaac Anderson both finished with double digits. MacLellan recorded 14 points, four assists, three rebounds, and shot 5-for-6 from the field. In comparison, Anderson finished with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Isaac also shot 4-for-8 from the field and 4-for-7 from the charity stripe.

Surrounding support from other Crusaders helped the Crusaders pull away quickly to secure a dominate win. Ahmoni Weston finished with nine points and five assists. Ethan Emerzian secured seven points, seven assists, and three steals.

The Yellow Jackets did have several solid performances in Saturday's contest with three players finishing with double digit points. Connor Bush had 13 points, Jalen Brown had ten points, and Christian Burton had an impressive 18 points off the bench and shot 6-of-8 from the field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The Crusaders secured 36 points off turnovers from Defiance.
  • Madonna dominated the paint by notching an impressive 58 points.
  • Young is the fifth Crusader ever to eclipse the 1,700-point mark.
