Crusaders take care of the Cardinals for their third straight win

Box Score ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Madonna University men's basketball team (11-9, 7-5 WHAC) secured a dominating victory over Concordia University (5-12, 2-9 WHAC) 89-69 in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference battle. The Crusaders have won their third straight game and moved them to fifth in the WHAC. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

Madonna began the game on a 15-4 run and never really looked back from there. The Crusaders dominated the first half, building a lead up to as much as 17 which was led by a three point clinic from Ethan Emerzian who would hit 7 threes on 10 attempts giving him 21 points in the first half. The Crusaders would enter halftime leading 44-27. 

Entering the second half Emerzian's historic shooting night was not over as he would hit four more threes tying the single game record for most three pointers made in a game with 11 threes for 33 points. Despite the shooting outburst from Emerzian the Cardinals would make a run at a comeback cutting the Crusader lead to just six with 14 minutes left in the second half. But from that point the Crusaders would go on a 25-8 run over the next 8 minutes to balloon the lead back to 23. From their the Crusaders handled their business and defeated the Cardinals 89-69.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • Emerzian finished with 33 points on 11-20 from three. He also led the team 7 rebounds. 
  • Ahmoni Weston finished with 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists. 
  • Matthew MacLellan scored 12 points with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. 
  • Brendan Young finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. 

UP NEXT:

The Crusaders will look to continue their winning streak as they return home on Saturday, January 25th to take on Defiance University. Tip off is set for 3:00 PM.
