Crusaders Take Down Wolverines in WHAC Saturday Matchup

DEARBORN, MICH. – The Crusaders, coming off a high-scoring win against the YellowJackets, face the Wolverines of the University of Michigan-Dearborn in a Saturday matchup in the WHAC Conference. The newly ranked #23 Madonna Crusaders Men's Soccer Team continued their impressive start to the season and extended their conference record to 4-0-0 with an overall record of 7-1-2. The Crusaders end up taking care of the Wolverines with ease with a 5-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders senior, Ryota Nakajima, strikes early for the Crusaders by capitalizing on a penalty kick and gives the Crusaders a 1-0 lead only 1:10 minutes into the game. The first half of the game stayed close as Nakajima's goal would be the only goal in the first half.
At the end of the first half the Crusaders were not satisfied with only one goal. The upperclassmen for the Crusaders paved the way in the early scoring because at the 53:14 minute-mark, Corey Matthews buries a goal in front from an attempted header from Felipe Acherboim that fell short. As the Crusaders are up 2-0 on the Wolverines, senior Yan Brun is awarded a penalty kick and fakes out the goalie for an easy goal at the 68:05 minute-mark to extend the Crusaders lead to 3-0. It only took the Crusaders three minutes to notch their fourth goal of the game with a goal from senior Jordy Lopez off a beautiful cross from Hassan Alatooli. Lastly, sophomore Hassan Alatooli is awarded yet another penalty kick for the Crusaders and takes advantage by adding the fifth and final goal of the game. The Madonna Men's Soccer Team showed yet another strong offensive game by putting up five goals and a solid defensive performance by only allowing five shots.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Crusaders recorded 24 shots with 15 being on goal.
  • Crusader defense shows up by only allowing five shots with one being on goal.
