LIVONIA, MICH. – The newly ranked Madonna University Crusaders Men's Soccer team took on the YellowJackets of Defiance College (Ohio) in a Wednesday matchup in the WHAC Conference. The Crusaders put on an offensive clinic this afternoon as the Crusaders had shown no mercy. The Crusaders put up a staggering 13 goals, 54 shots, and 30 shots on goal. Plenty of records were broken in the Men's Soccer history.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It would only take the Crusaders a couple minutes into the game before notching the Crusaders' first goal of the game by way of
Ren Suzuki with an assist from Andres Gomez at the 3:14 minute mark. As another three minutes passed;
Ryota Nakajima wanted to get in on the scoring action by giving the Crusaders a 2-0 lead at the 6:06 minute mark.
Hassan Alatooli hopped in the goal category with an assist from
Marco Palushaj at the 28:37-minute mark. Next,
Bernardo Teston notched his first and only goal of the game assisted by
Hassan Alatooli at the 32:30-minute mark.
Marco Palushaj finishes the scoring in the first half with an assist from
Masayuki Sato at the 37:03-minute mark. As the final score reflects, the Crusaders followed suit from the first half scoring by almost doubling their score.
Jordy Lopez scored at the 49:47-minute mark with an assist from Andreas Gomez.
Corey Matthews picks up an unassisted goal at the 50:46-minute mark. Jhonnier Torres picks up the tenth goal of the game with an assist from
Jordy Lopez at the 52:35-minute mark. Mason Winnkel snags a goal for himself with an assist from the captain, Andres Gomez at the 58:03-minute mark. Andres Gomez was not satisfied with just two assists on the day, so Gomez picked himself up a goal at the 59:03-minute mark. Finally,
Martin Marks caps off the day with a goal assisted by
Keegan O'Callaghan at the 64:19-minute mark.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Crusaders broke the single game record for most goals in a game. The previous record came back in the 2002 season when the Crusaders scored 12 goals against Concordia.
- The Crusaders' 11 assists is tied for most assists in a single game, the most since 2005.
- Madonna's 54 shots are the second most single game history.
- Andres Gomez led the Crusaders with five points on the day.
- The Crusaders had 12 different goal scorers on the day.

The Madonna University Crusaders Men's Soccer team will be heading to Dearborn, Mich. next to take on the Wolverines of University of Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday September 28, 2024. The Crusaders will be looking to duplicate their dominant performance and improve their three-game winning streak.
