GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Coming off their dominant shutout victory over UNOH, the #RV Madonna Men's Soccer Team (4-2-1, 1-0), headed across the state for their second Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match of the season, where they would face the Aquinas College Saints (4-2, 0-1). After getting off to a hot start, the Crusaders would go on to shut out the Saints, taking a 2-0 victory and moving to 2-0 in the WHAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It would take less than five minutes for the Crusaders to get on the board. The senior from Kawasaki, Japan,
Ren Suzuki found the back of the net all on his own for the game's first goal. Before the first half ticked down, the Crusaders would strike once again. This time it was the captain, senior
Andres Gomez Rubiano, off of an assist by senior
Corey Matthews.
From there, the Crusaders' defense would take over. Led by
Afonso Henrique as the goalkeeper, who recorded seven saves, the Crusaders would go on to shut out the Saints and win 2-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Henrique recorded seven saves.
- Lopez scored one goal off of three shots on goal.
- Suzuki scored his second goal of the season.
