MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- The Madonna University Crusaders volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat (25-20, 16-25, 18-25, 23-25) from the Foresters of Huntington University (Ind.) on Friday night at the Cougar Classic hosted by Mount Vernon Nazarine University (Ohio.)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was the first contest between the Crusaders and Foresters in 22 years as the last one was in the 2002 season. In the first set, senior
Kira Buza and sophomore
Sydney Stonerock teamed up for a block so score the first point of the 2024 season.
Madonna and Huntington eep things knotted through the first fame. Both were trading points until the Foresters took a 18-16 lead, and the forced Crusader third-year head coach
Scott Barbe to call a timeout. Out of the timeout, Madonna takes advantage of two consecutive attack errors by Huntington to make things all tied up 18-18. Then junior
Katie Mulka rattles off three blocks in a row to take a 21-18 lead. The Crusaders would go on to take set one, 25-20.
In frames two through four, Huntington took control of the game and would win the match in four sets 3-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Hannah Kennan led the Crusaders in kills with 11 and also recorded nine digs and three blocks
- Mulka finished the day with seven of the Crusaders 12 blocks
- Buza had an all around game with nine kills, 12 digs and two blocks
- Karlee Stoll recorded 33 assists and 12 digs
- Khloee Stoll led the team with 20 digs

Madonna is back in action tomorrow for two more games as they take on #RV Indiana University East and No. 20 Mount Vernon Nazarine University at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
