Crusaders win Back to Back Conference Tournament Championships

LIVONIA, Mich. - No. 11 Madonna Crusaders Softball team faced off against the Aquinas Saints for the WHAC Tournament Championship. This game was originally set to be in Sylvania, Ohio but again due to weather and the field conditions the Crusaders again got to return home for a chance at the perfect WHAC season and back to back tournament champions. The Crusaders would defeat the Saints with a final score of 3-0. With the Championship victory, this is the first time in conference history where a team has gone undefeated in the conference in the regular season and won the conference tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Maeson Schlaud started on the mound for the Crusaders again making her unexpected final return to University Field. Schlaud has truly found her groove, continuing her dominance on the mound against the Saints going all seven innings for the Crusaders with six strikeouts allowing only one one hit on 88 pitches, moving her record to 31-2. The Crusaders offense, although not quite as dominant as usual, was able to get the job done to pick up the win. All three of the Crusader runs came in the 4th inning, in an inning where the Crusaders would bat through the lineup. The bases would be loaded after an Ashley Rosiewicz single, Jessica Dunkel single, and Mackenzie Ming walk that led to Bailey Martin coming up to the plate with two outs. Martin would send the pitch back up the middle on a two strike hit that would bring two runs across. Ella Thomas would follow up with an infield single to reload the bases. Faith Peschke would then walk to bring across another run giving the Crusaders the 3-0 lead. The Crusaders would go on to win back to back conference tournaments and complete their perfect conference season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Rosiewicz would go 2-3 with two singles.
  • Peschke would go 2-2 with an RBI, a triple, and a walk.
  • Martin finished 1-3 with two RBI's.
