SIOUX CENTER, IOWA-- The Madonna University softball team opened up NAIA Postseason play with a 6-3 victory over the Vikings of Grand View University (Iowa) on Monday after from Northwestern College (Iowa).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a scoreless first inning from Maeson Schlaud, the Crusaders were able to get on the board first with an RBI single from sophomore Jessica Dunkel. The Vikings would answer the Crusaders as in the top of the second to tie things up.
In the third, the Crusaders were faced with some adversity for the first time in a while. The Vikings, with two outs strung a couple of hits together and had runners on second and third. The following batter sent a two-RBI single up the middle and Grandview was up 3-1.
Bottom of the fourth rolls around and Dunkel starts the inning off with an absolute moon shot to left field to cut the lead down to 3-2. Two batter later with a runner on third,
Bailey Martin ties the game back up with an infield RBI single. Madonna wasn't done there, three batters later Alissa Gauther stepped up ot the plate and drove home another run, making it 4-3.
In the following innings, Schlaud was dialed in, only allowing one hit in three innings and the Crusader took this game 6-3.
