Crusaders pick up the Series Sweep

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Madonna University baseball team would complete the series sweep with the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Sunday afternoon at the University of Michigan Ray Fisher Stadium. In game one the Crusaders would win 23-6 and in game two would win 13-2.

Game 1:

Entering game one the Crusaders continued their dominant performance from the day before but found themselves in a slow start at the start of game one. The Crusaders would come right where they left off, picking up a run in the top of the first off a Nick Sandiha Jr. single. The Wolverines however would have an answer for the Crusaders where they would pick up 4 runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead after one.  After that it would be all Crusaders as they would only allow two more runs for the Wolverines the rest of the game and in the 2nd and 3rd innings the Crusaders would combine for nine runs and finish it off in the 5th, 6th, and 7th combining for 13 runs. Joshua Medrano would get his first homerun of the year in the 2nd inning while Payton Mazzola would get his third homerun later in the 2nd inning. The Crusaders' struggles in game one came on the mound where Ryan Dusang got the start but would only go ⅔ of the first inning where he would have five walks to allow the first four runs to cross. Dustin Cummins would come in relief and pick up the win on his record. Cummins would go 3.2 innings but also struggled as he gave up seven walks but allowed just one run and had one strikeout.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Kyle Revere would go 4-4 with 6 RBI's and 2 doubles.
  • Sandiha Jr would go 3-6 with 5 RBI's and a double.
  • The Crusaders would total six stolen bases in game one

Game 2:

In game two the bats continued to stay hot for the Crusaders as they would tally 13 hits as a team with 7 of the 9 starters picking up a hit. The Crusaders dominated this game in a more methodical method as they would complete all nine innings in this one but the offensive work stayed the same. The Crusaders also saw an exceptional performance on the mound in game two from starter Carson Collins. Collins would go 8 out of the 9 innings with just two walks and six strikeouts in only 97 pitches. Mazzola would continue to remain hot as he would pick up five RBI's in this game bringing his RBI total on the day to eight along with another homerun which is his second of the day and fourth of the season.
