Crusaders Sweep the Golden Eagles

LIVONIA, Mich. - No. 20 Madonna Crusaders Softball team faced off in a double-header at home against Cornerstone University. The Crusaders would sweep the Golden Eagles winning the first game with a score of 10-9 in game two would win 14-2 in five innings. 

Game 1:

In game one, it was Maeson Schlaud on the mound for the Crusaders in her first game since March 25th. Schlaud would go five innings for the Crusaders with seven strikeouts and with three hits and three runs allowed. Laci Harris would come in relief for the Crusaders picking up two strikeouts and earning the win to take her to a 7-0 record. The Crusaders bats would remain steady throughout the whole game from the game as they would put up a run in every inning but the 4th and the 6th innings and finish with 11 total hits. The Crusaders would start the game strong, scoring seven runs in the first three innings to take a 7-0 lead. The Golden Eagles would answer back with three of their own in the fourth and fifth to trail the Crusaders 7-3. The Crusaders would pick up two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-2 lead after five. Then the Golden Eagles would come roaring back to tie the game up at 9 in the 7th. But it would be the Crusaders who would recover after the let down and would get a walk off error hit to score the winning run and take the 10-9 victory.

Game 2:

The Crusaders second game would start Schlaud again where she would go the full five innings getting another 7 strikeouts on only 67 pitches. The Crusaders bats would also be even hotter in game two where they finished with 17 hits with 13 of them coming in the 3rd inning. The Crusaders would score all 14 runs in the first three innings and only allowed the Golden Eagles two runs in the game, not allowing what happened in game one to happen in game two. All but two starters picked up hits in game two with six of them also having multi-hit games. On top of that, Bailey Martin and Ella Thomas would go a perfect 3-3 on the game both picking up three RBI's.

  • Alissa Gauthier would go 2-4 with a double and two runs scored.
  • Reagan Finkbeiner would go 3-4 with two runs scored.
  • Biggott again would go 2-3 with a double and two RBI's.


UP NEXT

The Crusaders will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, April 6th as they will stay at home to take on the Wolverines of Michigan-Dearborn. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
