LIVONIA, Mich. - No. 16 Madonna Crusaders Softball team faced off in a double-header at home in their final home game series of the year against Siena Heights University. The Crusaders would sweep the Saints winning the first game with a score of 8-0 in six innings and in game two would win 8-0 also in six innings.
Game 1:
In game one, it was Maeson Schlaud on the mound for the Crusaders in one of her final starts at University Field. Schlaud was continuing her dominance on the mound in game one going four innings for the Crusaders with six strikeouts allowing only one hit on 50 pitches, moving her record to 25-2. The Crusaders bats were consistent all day long scoring six runs in the first three innings. The Crusaders saw three batters get triples in Alissa Gauthier, Ashley Rosiewicz, and Ella Thomas. The Crusader defense and pitching was able to hold the Saints to just two total hits with zero errors. Jane Anderson came in relief for Schlaud and continued the pitching gem. Anderson went two innings with four strikeouts on 36 pitches. The Crusaders also saw 7 of their 9 starting bats pick up a hit with 5 of the 9 also coming around to score. This led to a Crusader victory in six innings 8-0.

Game 2:
The Crusaders second game would start Schlaud again in her final start of her career at University Field where she would go 4.2 innings getting five strikeouts on 49 pitches. Instead of getting the third out at the end of the 5th, instead Schlaud got the curtain call and standing ovation for her lustrous career as a Crusader. Statistically, Schlaud will go down as the second best softball pitcher to ever wear the blue and gold. The Crusaders bats would remain hot in game two as the Crusaders pick up seven runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings of game two with the final run coming in the 6th to pick up the mercy victory. The Crusaders stayed consistent with the bats picking up nine hits as a team which was the same total as game one. Laci Harris would go 1.1 innings with one strikeout on only 16 pitches to help the Crusaders pick up th 8-0 mercy victory in six innings.Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Gauthier would go 2-3 with a triple, three RBI's, one run scored, and one stolen base.
- Bailey Martin would go 2-3 with two singles.
- Regan Finkbeiner would go 1-2 with a triple and a sacrifice fly for an RBI.
UP NEXT
The Crusaders will be back in action for their final regular season series on
Sunday, April 28th as they will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to take on the Cardinals of Concordia. If the Crusaders can pick up two more wins at Concordia it would be the second time in WHAC history since the 1993 softball season that a team has gone undefeated in conference play. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
