Crusaders go Undefeated in WHAC Play

LIVONIA, Mich. - No. 16 Madonna Crusaders Softball team faced off in a double-header that ended up being at home in their final regular game series of the year against Concordia University. This game was originally set to be at Concordia but due to weather and the field conditions at Concordia, the game was moved to Madonna for the turf field. The Crusaders would sweep the Cardinals winning the first game with a score of 5-1 and in game two would win 8-0 in six innings. With these victories the Crusaders made history by going undefeated in the WHAC, a perfect 22-0. Their unbeaten season is only the second in conference history and the first in 30 years as Siena Heights went 10-0 in 1993.

Game 1:

In game one, it was Maeson Schlaud on the mound for the Crusaders making her unexpected final return to University Field. Schlaud was continuing her dominance on the mound in game one going all seven innings for the Crusaders with six strikeouts allowing only one four hits on 75 pitches, moving her record to 27-2. The Crusaders offense also continued to dominate striking early on the Cardinals with three runs in the first inning. The Crusaders tallied up eleven hits as a team, with Faith Peschke picking up a triple. Eight of the nine starters picked up a hit in game one with Alissa Gauthier, Mackenzie Ming, and Peschke leading the way with two hits a piece.

Game 2:

The Crusaders second game would start Jane Anderson in her eighth start of the year. Anderson would go five innings tallying two strikeouts, while only allowing three hits on 60 pitches. The Crusaders bats would remain hot in game two but it would take until the 3rd inning for the Crusaders to cross the plate but when they did it came in bunches. Ming had a record setting game two as she picked up her ninth home run of the season which ties her for first in Crusader softball history for homeruns in a season. Jessica Dunkel would also have a game going 4-4 with two doubles. Schlaud would come in to end the game in her final appearance at University Field. She threw the final inning adding two more strikeouts and finalizing the Crusaders perfect WHAC season. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 
  • Peschke would go 2-3 with two runs scored and a triple.
  • Bailey Martin would go 1-4 with a stolen base.
  • Ashley Rosiewicz would go 1-4 with a run scored and two RBI's.


UP NEXT

The Crusaders will be back in action for WHAC conference tournament in Sylvania, Ohio at Pacesetter Park. Madonna will face off against Cleary University in the first round on Wednesday, May 1st. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
