LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University men's lacrosse team hosted The University of Michigan-Dearborn on Tuesday in the first round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament. The Crusaders would fall to the Wolverines 10-15.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Wolverines came out determined to make it past the first round of the WHAC tournament in their first ever appearance. The Crusaders looked to stop that opportunity but would come up just short. The Wolverine defense came out aggressive in the first half, allowing only three goals to the Crusaders. The Crusaders would only pick up one goal in the first quarter from
Eddie Dyla, assisted by
Nick Bryden. The Crusaders would get their other two goals in the second quarter from
Dylan Hicks and Bryden. The Crusaders would go into halftime down 7-3.
In the second half the Crusaders would be right with the Wolverines as the Crusaders would put up seven goals in the second half to the Wolverines eight. Bryden, Ken Hill, and Zach Lane would all pick up goals in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Weston Canfield would pick up his first goal of the year along with goals from Bryden, Hicks, and Lane. Despite the Crusaders hanging with the Wolverines in the second half, they could not overcome the first half deficit and the Wolverines would move on to the WHAC semifinal with a final score of 10-15.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Bryden finished with three goals and two assists for five total points.
- DeMario Williams finished with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers.
- Lane finished with two goals on three shots.
