LIVONIA, Mich. - No. 16 Madonna Crusaders Softball team faced off in a double-header at home against Lourdes University. The Crusaders would sweep the Gray Wolves winning the first game with a score of 8-0 in five innings and in game two would win 8-3. Not only did the Crusaders celebrate their seniors of Makalie Richardson, Hailey Holbrook, Emily Biggott, Bailey Martin, and Maeson Schlaud but they also picked up their 40th win of the season which is the first time the Crusaders have done so since 2009. 

Game 1:

In game one, it was Schlaud on the mound for the Crusaders continuing her dominance on the mound. Schlaud would go five innings for the Crusaders with seven strikeouts and only three hits on 63 pitches, moving her record to 23-2. The Crusaders bats took a bit of time to warm up today but when they did it was an explosion of offense. The game would remain scoreless through the first two innings but in the bottom of the 3rd the Crusaders would pick up three runs on three hits with RBI's from Regan Finkbeiner, Ashley Rosiewicz, and Jessica Dunkel to take the 3-0 lead. In the 4th inning it would be Faith Peschke and Alissa Gauthier picking up RBI's to take the 5-0 lead. Then in the 5th inning the Crusaders would pick up the mercy win after getting a two RBI single from Bailey Martin and a bases loaded single from Finkbeiner the Crusaders would walk away with the 8-0 victory in five innings.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 

• Finkbeiner would go 3-3 with 2 RBI's and a walk.
• Peschke finished 3-3 with a double, a triple, and an RBI.
• Ella Thomas would go 2-3 with a double and three runs scored.

Game 2:

The Crusaders second game would start Schlaud again where she would go the full seven innings getting six strikeouts on 88 pitches. The Crusaders bats would remain hot in game two as the Crusaders would strike early picking up five runs in two innings to start the game. The Gray Wolves would make things interesting in the top of the 6th getting a three run homerun but the Crusaders would have an answer ready scoring three runs of their own on off a Gauthier double, a Finkbeiner groundout that would bring across a run, and a Rosiewicz single that would give the Crusaders an 8-3 victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 

• Gauthier would go 3-3 with a double, one RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases.
• Dunkel would go 2-3 with a double.
• Thomas would go 2-3 with two runs scored.

UP NEXT

The Crusaders will be back in action for their final regular home game series on Thursday, April 25th as they will take on the Saints of Siena Heights. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
