Crusaders dominate the Gray Wolves

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University men's lacrosse team hosted Lourdes University on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders would come out with another big 17-7 victory to improve their record to 6-3. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders looked to get back to back wins over WHAC opponents which they would do so in dominating fashion. In the first quarter Lourdes would be the ones to strike first to take a 1-0 lead but then it was the Crusaders who would go on a 4-0 run to end the first quarter to take a 4-2 lead after the first. In the second quarter the Crusaders and Gray Wolves would go back and forth as the Crusaders started with two goals to start the quarter then Lourdes would answer with two of their own then the Crusaders would end the second with two more goals to take a 8-4 lead heading into halftime.

The second half would be dominated by the Crusaders not only on the offensive end but on the defensive end as well, holding the Gray Wolves to only three goals the entire second half holding them scoreless in the third with all three of the Gray Wolf goals coming late in the 4th quarter. Continuing from the end of the second quarter the Crusaders would score nine unanswered goals and would have a 15-4 lead before the Gray Wolves would score again. This game would prove to be a record breaking performance for multiple guys starting with freshman Reid Dunavant would have a career type day putting up a whopping 7 goals which ties him for second all time in most goals in a single game. Zachary Lane also tied his own record for most assists in a single game as he would finish with 5 assists and 2 goals for a total of 7 points. Lastly, freshman Braeden McCullough gets himself back into the record books after his nine caused turnovers from last game with eight in this one to put him tied for fifth. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • Jeff Varner would finish with 11 saves on the day. 
  • Nick Bryden finished with two goals and one assist.
  • Dylan Hicks finished with two goals and one assist.
  • Caleb Kosnik finished with five ground balls and two caused turnovers

UP NEXT:

Madonna will be back in action Wednesday, April 3rd as they travel to Southfield, Mich. where they will take on RV Lawrence Tech University. The game is set to start at 6:00 PM.
