Crusaders Sweep the Blue Devils

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - No. 24 Madonna Crusaders Softball team faced off in a double-header on the road against Lawrence Tech University. The Crusaders would sweep the Blue Devils in dominating fashion winning the first game with a score of 10-0 after five innings and in game two would win 9-0. 

Game 1:

In game one, it was Maeson Schlaud on the mound for the Crusaders coming off a two game series at Indiana Tech on Sunday where she threw both games picking up two wins for the Crusaders. Schlaud would show she is in peak season form starting her third game in two days with another dominant performance on the mound. Schlaud would go two innings for the Crusaders with three strikeouts and zero hits allowed. The Crusaders bats would also remain hot from the game Sunday as they would put up six runs in the first inning batting through the entire order in the first. After an Alissa Gauthier double, Ashley Rosiewicz would pick up the RBI single to start the game. Jessica Dunkel would follow up with another single which led to Mackenzie Ming to follow suit picking up an RBI single. Then Emily Biggott would hit a double to center field to score two more runs to make it a 4-0 game. The scoring would end on a Faith Peschke line out to the shortstop but a throwing error would score two more runs to make it 6-0 after one. In the second inning the Crusaders again would bat through the order with Ming hitting a three run homer to left center to give the Crusaders a 9-0 lead. Peschke would pick up the last run of the game on a sacrifice fly to left field to make it a 10-0 game. Laci Harris would come in to finish off the game and officially get the win for the Crusaders she would throw three innings getting three strikeouts and only giving up one hit. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • 7 out of the 9 Crusaders finished with two hits totaling up 15 hits as a team
  • Ming would go 2-4 with two RBI's and a homerun.
  • Biggott would go 2-4 with a double and two RBI's. 


Game 2:

The Crusaders second game would start Schlaud again where she would go the full seven innings getting 10 strikeouts and only allowing three hits. The Crusaders bats would also not slow down in this game as the Crusaders would put up 5 runs in the first three innings. Although there were not as many hits as game one the Crusaders still totaled up seven hits led by Bailey Martin who would go 3-4 with a double and two runs scored. Along with Biggott who would finish 2-4 with another double on the day. Reagan Finkbeiner would go 1-4 with two RBI's. Gauthier, despite being hitless in this one would also finish with two RBI's. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • 7 out of the 9 Crusaders would cross home plate in game two 
  • Dunkel would go 1-3 with a run scored and would be hit by a pitch.


UP NEXT:

The Crusaders will be back in action on Saturday, March 30th as they travel to Ann Arbor to take on the #RV Cardinals of Concordia University. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
